"People Are Refusing to Work..."

That Isn't How It Works

  • It is illegal to continue to refuse to return to work because UI benefits are better than wages while employed. Workers who do this are in danger of committing fraud.

  • Furthermore, those collecting UI must accept any “suitable job” (as defined by their state’s DOL) offered to them while unemployed. If they refuse, they are no longer eligible to collect UI (or PUA, or FPUC, etc).

  • FURTHER Furthermore, people are going back to work. Economists projected a 20% federal unemployment rate for June and it was actually reported at 13%.  People are returning to work at an even faster pace than anticipated or, frankly, recommended.
