REDALERT
Red Alert:
The entertainment community of North America will light the skylines red on Tuesday, September 1 to signal the dire state of the live events and entertainment industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The live events industry, which has been particularly affected by the crisis, has been shut down since March and will remain closed well into 2021. The goal of the Red Alert campaign is to raise public awareness and to implore the US government to offer relief by passing small business legislation, in the form of the RESTART Act, and support millions of unemployed workers with extended and expanded Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and extension of the full $600 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC).
The vibrant entertainment community of NYC, hit hard by the closed doors of the industry, joins the national Red Alert movement on September 1st by lighting the city’s buildings, screens, theatres, venues and more in red from 9am - midnight. NYC is just one part of an even greater movement. Hundreds of venues, iconic buildings, and residences in more than 30 cities across North America will glow red at the same time as beacons of the industry’s distress.
The Push:
In addition to the Red Alert, the NYC entertainment community will come together that evening, masked and socially distant, for visibility in midtown. DETAILS PENDING. Check back soon.
Participants will include stagehands, actors, programmers, technicians, designers, musicians, directors, management, rental shop owners and workers, distributors, makers... the list of those affected goes on and on. This event is inclusive and non-partisan. As this is a visibility campaign, participants and spectators alike are being encouraged to flood social media with photos and videos of the push and of their red buildings using the hashtags #WeMakeEvents, #RedAlertRESTART and #ExtendPUA.
